First Nations Artist
Hollie Bartlett
Hollie was born in Terrace, British Columbia. She is a member of the Haisla Nation, a branch of the Kwaguilth people. The Killer Whale, revered for its great strength and skill as a hunter, is her family crest.
Hollie's interest in art began at a very early age.
After moving to Vancouver, she began a career as a photographer working for the First Nations newspaper, "Kahtou".
In 1998 Hollie started a four year apprenticeship with Master Carver, Corrine Hunt. She has since apprenticed with Michael Reynolds, a renowned goldsmith.
Inspirational and artful, this instruction gives her an unique approach with pieces combining silver and gold, stone setting, texture and inlay.
Hollie has studied the designs of traditional pieces and has learned from other contemporary artists. Her work demonstrates this approach - incorporating the old and new in a style all her own.
