Marty Reynard's Selection:
Canadian Artist
Marty Reynard
A native New Yorker, Marty Reynard was exposed to the jewellery arts at an early age by his mother, a jewelry maker who worked primarily in copper and silver.
He emigrated to Canada in 1968, and received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Queen's University at Kingston, Ontario. His interest in metal sculpture and design led him to the jewellery arts following graduation.
Working in many metals, with a specialty in titanium, his work takes a very untraditional approach and incorporates a wide variety of materials. His studio represents a laboratory where he gets to run aesthetic experiments on a daily basis. These experiments, fortunately, are endless, and the surprises and discoveries they yield, provide an ongoing impetus to keep his work changing.
Within the field of jewellery design he finds a meeting place of art, chemistry, engineering and the magic of alchemy (the transformation of that which is common into that which is precious). He has come to refer to himself as a maker of aesthetic objects' and believes there is no such thing as 'precious metal' only precious objects.
Marty is an artist in many forms even musically as a guitar player. Mostly, he likes to share his philosophical views on almost any subject. He is a delight to know.
